Ford and Shelby American have unveiled the newest Mustang model and it is a beauty. The EcoBoost four-cylinder Shelby GT offers numerous improvements to create an exhilarating driving experience.
Ford’s decision to revamp the Shelby GT was a bit out of the ordinary. Yet, this new Mustang is the first to really acknowledge the importance of Ford’s non-US market. The inclusion of an EcoBoost engine, as opposed to a V6 or V8 more common among Fords, reflects the fact that drivers in Europe are more environmentally conscious. Additionally, they do not have as great of access to cheap gas like Americans.
Production of models built for left-hand drive countries began in January. Production of models for right-hand drive countries begins this month.
The 2016 Mustang features PedalMax and BoostMax upgrades as well as a tuned BORLA performance exhaust add up to over 335 horsepower – 20 more than a regular car. The Mustang’s handling will be enhanced with 20-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 275-35zr20 tires.
Aesthetically, the car will have a new front splitter, hood, rocker panels, spoiler, and grilles. All of these will be made of carbon fiber and feature Shelby GT striping and badges.
The new model has a lengthy list of available features such as racing seats, 5-point harnesses, short-throw shifter, and more to be announced soon by Shelby.
“The mission of the car was to develop and deliver balance, lane performance and exhilaration in perfect harmony,” said Ford’s Performance Jamal Haneedi. “I know that sounds a little fluffy but when you drive the car, you’ll really get those three sensations all happening at the same time.”
More engineers have contributed to making this car than any other in the history of the company.
The US price of the Shelby GT EcoBoost package starts at $23,995. Orders will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.
